Our Flyer

This is our flyer, more or less. You may actually see these floating around already since the union has asked if they can start distributing them now and since the OU College Democrats may or may not use some parts of it (but if they do, they assure me that they will credit us). Dave Logan is printing this and I will bring them with me to the picket line tomorrow.

MYTH: There’s not enough money to keep the 24 union jobs that have been cut.
FACT: At least $770,000 has simply been reallocated, primarily to create new and needless administrative positions.

MYTH: Union jobs have been cut to better fund the OUPD.
FACT: The OUPD received no more than 25% of the reallocated funds, but about 65% of the reallocation was taken from Facilities Management.

MYTH: Most affected employees will be able to conveniently move to other university jobs.
FACT: There’s nothing convenient about it. Employees moving to other jobs will take as much as a $5 pay cut, and some full time employees will have to commute all the way to Zanesville to keep their jobs.

MYTH: The cleanliness and safety of the campus will be virtually unaffected.
FACT: All buildings on campus will be cleaned less. Trash will be emptied from some buildings no more than twice a week, stairwells will be swept only once per month, and lobbies and hallways will not be cleaned every day.

William Decatur, Vice President of Finance and Administration, has said that these job cuts “reflect very important priorities of the university and the Division of Finance and Administration” (Ohio University Outlook, 9/7/07). More bureaucrats, displaced employees, and dirtier buildings — whose priorities are these? If you don’t share Mr. Decatur’s priorities, join us in telling him:

No More Fat Cat Bureaucrats, Honor the Union Contract!
